  • Awesome article!

Here's What the Invaluable Fr. Phil Bloom put in his Parish Bulletin This Week:

In the past few weeks we saw a hideous assault on our Catholic faith. Perhaps you read that at a state-sponsored university, a biology professor carried out a public desecration of the Eucharist – and bragged about it by posting pictures on the Internet. Catholics (and other sensible citizens) protested to the University officials. Amazingly, they said the act of theft and destruction was part of the university’s “academic freedom.” It is hard to think of a comparison, but suppose a professor painted a swastika on a synagogue or burned a cross in a black neighborhood, would the university shrug it off as “academic freedom”? I don’t think so. They would correctly judge that he is incapable of treating Jewish or black students fairly. A professor who publicly desecrates the Eucharist is clearly incapable of fairness toward Catholic students. For us as Catholics the Eucharist is our most precious possession – worth more than all our buildings or bank accounts.

Although the university is not in Washington State, still it receives federal funds so it is our right (and duty) to protest this violation. I encourage you to write a courteous letter to President Robert Bruininks, University of Minnesota,/ /600 East 4th Street, Morris, Minnesota 56267. I have written him a letter, which I have posted on the bulletin board.

Besides exercising our rights as citizens, we should see this heinous act as a wake-up call. As Catholics we have lost reverence for the Eucharist. We need to examine our own behavior when we are in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament and when we come forward for Communion. Acts of reverence such as genuflection and bowing of the head express an interior devotion. Spending time in the Adoration Chapel deepens one’s faith and love for Jesus. Also this month I would ask you to join me offering a Mass of Reparation. A Mass of Reparation is a powerful way of counteracting disrespect and sacrilege against the Eucharist. When you think about it, it is amazing that Jesus – through whom all things were created – comes to us in such a humble form. The fact that he makes himself so defenseless imposes on us the duty to do all we can to defend the Eucharist from sacrilege. As a reminder of this sacred duty, we will have several Masses of Reparation during this month of August. You will notice the times in the Mass Intentions section of the bulletin.

  • Month of Prayer for Eucharist Desecrator

    From http://catholic-teaching.org/2008/07/august-2008-is-officially-pray-for-pz-myers-month/

I will encourage you to make August a month of prayer for PZ Myers. But let’s not just pray for his conversion. Let’s be a little more daring. Let’s pray that he will become our next St. Paul — not an the Apostle to the Gentiles, but an Apostle of the Eucharist.

This isn’t as odd as it might sound. One theme running throughout the lives of the saints, espeically saints that lives worldly lives before their conversion, is this: Their greatest sins became the foundation of their holiness. St. Paul persecuted the Church, and so God used him to build up the Church. St. Augustine lived a life of fleshly pleasure, so God made him the one to clarify the Christian view of conjugal love and made him the model of acesticism. St. Ignatius of Loyola longed to be a military man, and so God made him the head of, at one time, one of the most influential religious orders in the world. And little Therese Martin was extremely selfish in the smallest things of life, so God used her to teach the world how to become extraordinarily holy by giving Jesus the smallest of our acts.

So beginning next Friday, August 1, let us all join in prayer for the conversion of PZ Myers every day, until Sunday, August 31. Let us pray Rosaries for his conversion, offer up the Mass for his conversion, engage in abstinence and fasting for his conversion, and spend time in Adoration for his conversion.

In other words, let’s treat the man as Christ would have us treat him — with profound love.

So get the word out. Email your friends and relatives. Put it on your blogs and websites.

  • Desecrated

    Well,

The kook did it.  Here is the posting:

"Yes, the sad little cracker has met its undignified end, so stop pestering me. The cracker, the koran, and another surprise entry have been violated and are gone. You'll have to wait until tomorrow for the details, what little of them there are. I must quickly apologize to all you good Catholics who were hoping to attend Mass, since you can't anymore — I have been told many hundreds of times now that cracker abuse violates your right to practice your religion. I guess you'll have to adapt. Secular humanism is a good alternative, if you aren't already flocking to join the Mormons.

Anyway, I've got important things to do today. It's my oldest son's birthday, and I told him that as a gift to me him, I'd take myself him to see The Dark Knight. I sure hope the world doesn't end before the movie does"

All I can say is pray for him and his family.  Can you imagine the poor kids that have this raving loon for a father?  Also I am suggesting making Friday a day of penance and reparation.
